Photonic Switching.

Photonic Switching

All-optical switching continues to be researched worldwide due to the promise of enabling networks that can be flexibly reconfigured while keeping data in the optical domain and avoiding inefficient optical to electrical conversions. We continue to design and characterize generations of photonic switches in multiple Si photonic platforms aiming to achieve low-loss wavelength routing with low power consumption. To make these photonic devices useful for systems, we also focus on integrating switch control electronics to demonstrate functional subsystems and developing novel network architectures that best leverage the capabilities of all-optical routing and switching.
